This first teaser is all about kicking the lifestyle of board riding straight into your chest. If you ride sideways then you know exactly what I am talking about!

New Essentials Ad
Here is a new ad from Essentials. This sequence was shot of Mike Flaherty dropping a cliff at Vail. Had to ollie over a couple of bushes to get at this one, and it paid off. Click the image to enlarge.

Bonobo: Black Sands
I just picked up the new Bonobo Album, "Black Sands" and if you don't have it already you need to pick it up. Dez Hill introduced me to Bonobo driving through a Moab canyon in the middle of the night looking for firewood, and I think that is the perfect explanation of the feeling you get when you listen to this album. A little anticipation, a little blurry speed, and a little fire. I would say "Black Sands" is a blend of a little DJ Shadow, a little Flying Lotus, and a little Four tet. All of which I groove to on a regular basis. Check it out!

Tommy Chong Tattoo
Or is it? This amazing piece of skin art was sent to us by young Darin Baack and Jared "Mrs." Ashley. They are BIG fans of the underlying message in this one. Take a close look.

R.I.P. Pat's old jaw.
On a blog about board riding we run into a few messed up injuries. However, I would have to say that this one is the worst yet.
Over the weekend my brother Pat, co-founder of Essentials, was in Las Vegas doing a little gambling and enjoying himself. While waiting for a cab around 3 am he got into what he thought was a friendly conversation with a few others waiting as well. A few words flew, and so did a punch, that ended up connecting with Pat's face. Well, he went back to San Diego the next day with a very sore jaw, and got ahold of me via video conference. That's when I saw it. One fucked up jaw. It didn't align, and he couldn't move it really at all (although he will tell you differently). He took a Ibuprofen and went to sleep.
The next morning, straight the to ER. Emergency surgery to wire a jaw broken in 3 places together. Dudes face was messed up. I am posting a picture that he looked like because I promised him I wouldn't post the real picture.
Get well bro!

King of the Mountain is back!
I am extremely excited to let you know that the King of the Hill contest is back!
"It's the craziest, deepest, powder you can find. It’s the best place in the world to snowboard. It's pretty scary, and big, and fast everything is 20 times bigger than anywhere else in the world," said legend Mark Frank Montoya about the event.
"These runs will demand massive airs, Cro-Magnon leg strength and cat-like board-handling agility. It's the ultimate test of a professional snowboarder in one run, pitting the hard-charging exuberance of youth with the accrued mastery of those with years of experience," emphasized Mark Sullivan (founder of Tailgate Alaska and organizer of RECCO® King of the Hill.)
From Shaun Farmer, Kevin Jones, Mike Basich and Seth Wescott to Travis Rice, Mark Landvik, Scotty Lago and Aaron Robinson, the re-introduced big-mountain freestyle competition sets out to crown the sport's best. Founded in 1993 by Nick Perata (a legendary big-mountain snowboarder), the King of the Hill not only put the Valdez snowboarding scene on the map, it helped define an era in the sport. And for the first time in 10 years, RECCO® is presenting the challenge for those willing to take on the world’s best mountains and snow conditions. Thanks to Snowboard Magazine for the headsup.
Could this be it?
El Nino has been a bitch. Turns out Baltimore has had more snow this year than most of the Colorado Ski Resorts. The snow pack in Utah and Colorado is bad. Real Bad. Not to mention we are moving into spring, where on average snow in the mountains melts away at 3 inches a day. Well, I just got this image in via the weather wire (thanks Shane) and I am praying that the huge green swatch of gnarly weather on the left comes to Colorado and dumps on us. We need one last huge storm before we go into full-on spring riding mode.

Banksy's Sketchbook
Banksy is obviously known for his high profile and very public works but we have a look at his sketchbook. Looking at the personal sketchbook of an artist often times gives the chance to see their inspiration, unfinished works, or just something never meant for public viewing. We get a sense of Banksy’s dry humor and possibly some looks at future works. Thanks to http://slamxhype.com for all these great photos.

Like the envelopes sent to Thrasher.
Not sure how many of you read Thrasher magazine, but for the longest time readers have sent in letters in a hand drawn envelope. Some of them are sick! Well, looks like we have a fan in that same fashion! This is a drawing done by little Bryan Lechner, a third grader at Moab elementary school. Keep drawing Bryan, shoot for the stars!

U.S. & A.
Wow. This guy represents our country. Not only our country, but more importantly one of our favorite sports. I was OK with The Today show. I was OK with Regis and Kelli. I was OK with Larry King Live. But then Oprah happened, and he went on to ring the closing bell on Wall Street, and I started to lose patience. Finally I came to this conclusion: THIS PICTURE IS NOT OK. They should have used a sequence shot of his wack looking Double McTwist 1260. I could deal with that!
